There is black-type racing in 3 states. At Flemington, the Group 1 $1,000,000 Australian Guineas sees another clash between Riff Rocket and the horse owned by Winning Edge Investments members King Colorado plus Veight who got close to Mr Brightside recently. It should be an exciting contest. There is also the $1,000,000 Inglis Sprint where the betting is fairly open. The Group 2 $300,000 Blamey Stakes over 1600m is another open betting race where currently Atishu and Ayrton are equal favourites at $4.80. In the Listed $175,000 Furphy Trophy the topweight Bold Bastille comes up favourite after pulling up with some issues last run.

At Randwick there is the Group 1 $1,000,000 Verry Elleegant Stakes over 1600m. This race was previously known as the Chipping Norton Stakes but was renamed to honour the great mare who passed away recently while foaling in Europe (sadly the foal died too). The short-priced favourite is Fangirl who ran 2nd to Anamoe in this race last year. It would be fitting for Chris Waller to win this race with her this year. The Group 1 $750,000 Surround Stakes for 3YO fillies has Learning To Fly and Kimochi as the top two in the market. The Group 2 $300,000 Guy Walter Stakes for mares has Olentia as the early favourite, while the Group 2 $300,000 Sweet Embrace Stakes has Manaal as favourite where the 2YO fillies have very little race experience. Storm Boy is a very short-priced favourite in the Group 2 $300,000 Skyline Stakes as he has won all 3 of his starts. The day finishes with the Listed $250,000 Liverpool City Cup which is a wide open betting race.

In WA, Ascot hosts two Listed races. The $125,000 Lex Piper Stakes over 1600m has some good 3YO colts and geldings including Russian To The Bar and A Lot Of Good Men. This race is often used as a lead-up to the WA Derby. The $125,000 Ascot 1000 Guineas for 3YO fillies has them coming through a variety of races making it hard to line the form up. It should be an excellent race. There are also 10 races at Eagle Farm and 9 at Morphettville Parks.
