Race 1: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1550m
Good little race to kick off the day with some promising types engaged. Allusion is the current favourite at $2.20. Small field but they might run along in this.
Blake Says: Good race. So We Are has impressed me this prep, had the right run last start but was still strong through the line when winning in what was a solid race. The rise in distance shouldn’t pose any issues here, maps well and can run a big race. Allusion was dominant on debut, looks a nice type. Did have the right run in transit and this is much tougher, deserved favourite but I think the gap in the market between him and So We Are is too big.
Lachlan Says: Small field doesn't really enthuse the each-way punter in me but happy to play STAROUZ at the price for a small win here. Only 4L away last start albeit 11th at Flemington. They ran slick time and this is a fair bit easier.
Race 2: Sabois 2YO Handicap 1000m
2YO race over the sprint journey and Rose Tiara is the current favourite at $2.45. Hard to have any confidence in a speed map.
Blake Says: Don’t like to get involved in these 2YO races, I thought Mayan looked ok in its trial and could run a good race here on debut but no betting interest.
Lachlan Says: Once again these 2yo races don't entertain me. Staying away.
Race 3: Sabois 3YO Maiden Plate 1300m
Race for the 3YO’s here and Charmist who has been costly to punters opens up favourite at $2.80. Doesn’t look too much speed engaged, possibly Big Buds works across from the outside gate to lead.
Blake Says: Low race. Charmist brings the best form to the race, looks suited and maps well, but does she want to win? Top pick but would want $3.50+ to consider her as a betting proposition.
Lachlan Says: Lots of unknows here but happy to play OLIVE GROVE at the long-odds. Did too much wrong on debut and was specked in the market. Open for improvement and has some wraps on it. Worth a small each-way play.
Race 4: SABOIS + BM 75 Handicap 2400m
Race for the stayers and Rockarral opens up a short priced favourite at $1.55. Pat The Weapon clearly has the speed to lead but last start they rode for cover. All Well will also be prominent early.
Blake Says: Zero interest here. If they go back to the positive tactics on Pat The Weapon, I think he can give them something to catch but they were very negative last start.
Lachlan Says: Not a race that I'm interested in at all. These Adelaide staying races don't enthuse. ROCKARALL is too short to back and whilst PAT THE WEAPON is an Adelaide Cup acceptor, $3.90 still seems too short. Wouldn't be surprised if one of G. Young’s rock hard grinders beats them but I don't have the right answers to steer you into anything.
Race 5: BM 82 Handicap 1400m
Race over the 1400m here and Blue Morpho is the current favourite at $2.60. Go The Journey likely kicks up to lead with Easy Beast working across to be handy.
Blake Says: A race with a few queries. Blue Morpho an interesting resumer, on her best would be very competitive here, has trialled OK. I think Holy Command can improve here, comes through some nice races behind the smart Crown Fontein and Amberdi, had a very tough run on speed last start and just tired late. Should be peaking fitness wise 3rd up, can run well.
Lachlan Says: EASY BEAST looks a good 1x3 prospect here. Came across to Adelaide this time last year and beat a G1 performed horse in OVER EXPOSURE. Speed on and a 3 wide cover run from gate 9 is the key. On best should be winning.
Race 6: BM 64 Handicap 1000m
Race for the sprinters here and another Victorian visitor in Ray’s Dream is the current favourite at $3.30. They should roll along here, looks a lot of speed engaged.
Blake Says: Wide open race with formlines coming from everywhere. Equal Love was a good winner last start and gets a positive jockey change here, can run well but no betting interest.
Lachlan Says: Form lines are too hard to line up in this so I'm happy to ignore this race. WHITE KAPS at $31 looks overs but might be a couple of lengths below his best.
Race 7: 4UP BM 64 Handicap 1550m
Solid race here over the 1550m. Moghul Empire is the current favourite at $2.60. Don’t Dismiss should work across to lead with Just Live On and Our Benevento handy.
Blake Says: Moghul Empire was just OK last start and gets a negative jockey change here. Will be more suited rising in distance and has found a race with little depth, top pick but no betting interest. Zagato Star was much too good for them last start at Balaklava beating Ballast who has since come out and won, this is tougher and will need plenty of luck from barrier one.
Lachlan Says: My horse ENKI was really unlucky last start after being cluttered up on the fence and never out a pocket. Drops in grade here and barrier 11 might be for the best. Can get in the moving line and work home late. Excellent each-way bet.
Race 8: BM 64 Handicap 1300m
We finish off the day with a wide open race over the 1300m. Now And Forever is the current favourite at $5.50. Vladivostok and In The Fast Lane look the main early speed engaged here.
Blake Says: This is wide open. The big field should generate a solid tempo and it’s the type of race Flop can produce her best in being saved for one last crack at them. He Will Boom faces a big step up in grade but does look to have some talent and can run well.
Lachlan Says: A real raffle in the last so will be playing NIGHT QUEEN 3rd up at the big odds. Drops in grade and was specked in better company last start. Only missed a place once in six tries at the trip. $41 is a luxury.
