Track – Currently Rated Good 4

Rail – +8m 1200 to WP, +9m Remainder.

Race 1: Sabois 2YO Plate 1100m

We kick off with the 2YO’s and Swan Island opens up a $3 favourite coming out of the Chairman’s Stakes on debut. Hard to have confidence in a speed map with half the field on debut.

Blake Says: Hard race to have any confidence about with half the field on debut. Thought Dalasan was impressive when winning on debut and will continue to improve over further but happy to watch and learn here.

Lachlan Says: While 2yo racing is exciting, I find it hard to get enthusiastic about betting in them. Will be staying out.

Race 2: BM 64 Handicap 1050m

Decent race for the sprinters here. Current favourite is Extreme Thrill at $3.30. Exalted Maxine (If she backs up from Wednesday) and Miss Labelle look the main speed engaged here.

Blake Says: Extreme Thrill was just plain first up, always goes well 2nd up but would need to improve and the stable is going very average, looks unders. Have an opinion of Raging Queen, got the job done first up when doing plenty wrong, don’t usually like barrier one but I don’t mind it for her, hoping can box seat and she can run a great race from there.

Lachlan Says: Tricky little race with some genuine speed which alerts me to a horse called TWO ODD SOX. Is no world beater but neither are the others. Will get back in the moving line from the draw and will be finishing better than most. A nice each-way bet at a price.

Race 3: BM 70 Handicap 2040m

Race for the stayers here and Lynch Mob opens up an odds on favourite shooting for a hat trick of wins. Doesn’t look too much speed with Lostarc the likely leader.

Blake Says: Lynch Mob is racing well and finds another winnable race here. Cant get involved at odds on though. Impulse Diavolo was a big run last start in the Strathalbyn Cup, can run a race here but I’ll be staying out.

Lachlan Says: Lynch Mob looks to have a bit on them but there’s not much value there. Interesting runner is CATCH THAT CULPRITT, always showed some ability in NSW and had a nice turn of foot when right. Nice draw and G. Young horses have been on fire lately.  Might be worth a speck to find out.

Race 4: BM 90 Handicap 1200m

Over the sprint journey here with plenty of honest types engaged. Current favourite is the Victorian visitor Streets Of Avalon at $2.70. Looks decent speed with Go The Journey, Streets Of Avalon and Oamaru Owl all prominent.

Blake Says: Streets Of Avalon is as honest as they come, was a top effort last start sticking on strongly after having to work hard early, drops back to the 1200m here which doesn’t look ideal, doubt he will get his own way up front here. Barood is flying, might have to go back further than expected here from the awkward barrier. Tricky race, no betting interest.

Lachlan Says: Form lines flying all over the place in this one. Respect the early money for Lloyd Kennewell’s horse coming across but not a race I’m interested in.

Race 5: Sabois 3YO BM 70 Handicap 1200m

Nice race for the 3YO’s here. Kenyan Wonder resumes and opens a $3.30 favourite. Doesn’t look much speed on paper with First Diamond the likely leader.

Blake Says: Kenyan Wonder showed good ability in her first prep, does lose Kah though and she likely goes back from the barrier and there doesn’t look too much speed on paper, some queries. Have always had some time for Carlaluisa, she put it all together last start in an impressive win, should get a nice run here up towards the speed and can run well.

Lachlan Says: All over KENYAN WONDER here. Had a break since a pretty special win last start. I have no doubt the stable have bigger plans but would think it’s wound up here.  Great early betting support. Best bet

Race 6: 4UP BM 70 Handicap 1200m

Open race over the sprint journey with Flop the current favourite at $5.50. Most of the speed looks to be out wide here with Just Kappy and Knotted looking to come across and take a forward position.

Blake Says: This is wide open. Flop needs plenty of luck with her racing pattern, big field might suit her as it should generate a solid speed, she will be hitting the line well late. As a rough chance, Pamela Joy resumes, always goes well first up and maps to get a lovely trail just off the speed here, trainer and jockey both going well.

Lachlan Says: Looks a raffle. I didn’t mind FLOP but the price doesn’t enthuse. Staying away.

Race 7: Birthday Cup 2040m

We come to the feature race of the day and its an open race with Excessabeel current favourite at $4.20 coming off a dominant last start win. Silent Warrior and Wasabi Bob look the clear speed here.

Blake Says: Excessabeel is flying, dominant last start, gets a positive jockey change and should get a soft run in transit. Silent Warrior was really good last start, looks the leader here and looks set to peak stepping up to the 2000m third up.

Lachlan Says: Pretty keen on SILENT WARRIOR each-way here. On a quick back up of 7 days and Jason Holder is the best distance hoop in SA. The trip is perfect now and should be right in the finish.

Race 8: BM 75 Handicap 1600m

We finish off the day with a race over the mile and Charossa opens up favourite at $3.60 for the Gordon Richards stable. Saturday Sorcerer should ensure a strong tempo here. Daktari and Charossa will both also be prominent early.

Blake Says: Charossa had every chance last start when heavily backed, still ran well but just found one better. If he handles the step back to the mile here, he’s clearly the one to beat. Daktari was just plain first up, can run a much improved race here. Not a race I’m keen to get involved in.

Lachlan Says: Charossa looks the obvious but it’s been up for a while now. Noticed there has been some early specking for rough horse SATURDAY SORCERER. Was a really talented horse a few seasons back. Maybe a tiny play to find out but not much interest for me.
