Coomore Legacy G1 Preview

Fresh from nailing his TJ Smith preview where he declared Santa Ana Lane the horse to beat, Dean Evans is back with his Coolmore Legacy Preview.

The horse to beat

18 Nakeeta Jane $8.50

The past two winners of this race, Foxplay & Alizee, have both been 3yo fillies, and both ran 4th in the Vinery Stud Stakes G1 in their lead up. Nakeeta Jane ran 4th in the Vinery Stud Stakes this year, after winning at G1 level over 1400m then running a close 3rd to The Autumn Sun. Trained by Mark Newnham who was tutored by Gai Waterhouse, and she has won this race twice in the past 5 years. Drawn 18 which is a crying shame, but if she can get cover and they are swopping, she can storm home over the top of them.

Key dangers

5 Invincible Gem $20

Won the Emancipation for us on Saturday week at $9.50, which has proven a great lead up race for winners of this race in previous years, and was outstanding in the Coolmore before that run. Is flying, and is a big price flying under the radar here.

11 Sedanzer $23

Gai Waterhouse has won 2 of the past 5 runnings of this race. Sedanzer ran a good 4th in the Emancipation on Saturday second up, and is well suited to this race 3rd up. Has an excellent record over the Randwick mile, including a close 4th to Unforgotten first up last prep, and blinkers go on here. Reminds me of Amanpour who won this race for Gai previously.

7 Unforgotten $10

Has a very good record over the Randwick mile on dry tracks, winning a G2, running a close 3rd at G1 level behind Hartnell, and 3rd to Winx and Happy Clapper 3 starts away. Must respect here

For Exotics

19 Seabrook $23

Coming back from a solid 5th in the Vinery which is a great form reference for this. Last time she ran over the Randwick mile she won the G1 Champagne Stakes as a 2yo

13 Kenedna $26

Ran home strongly last start for 3rd. Trainer won this race 3 years ago, and has the Ex-Weird, Drink beer benefit. Underrated mare who can surprise here

1 Alizee $5.50

Had been flying this prep before last start failure on a wet track. Before that her previous two runs over the Randwick mile had both translated into G1 wins. The issue with her is she has had a very long prep starting December, and this feels like an afterthought. She's the class mare of the field but I feel she is under the odds given the profile.
